Ingredients
Method
- Brown the Beef
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces with a spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Sauté the Vegetables
- Add the diced onion, green pepper, and garlic to the pot. Cook for 4–5 minutes until the vegetables become soft and fragrant.
- Add the Spices
- Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Toasting the spices for just 30 seconds helps release deeper, warmer flavors.
- Add Tomatoes, Beans, and Broth
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, drained beans, and beef broth. Stir everything together to combine well.
- Simmer the Chili
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover partially and simmer for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers, the richer and thicker it becomes.
- Taste and Adjust
- Add more salt, spice, or sweetness depending on your taste preferences. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
Notes
Make it spicy: Add jalapeños, hot sauce, or double the chili powder.
Make it milder: Reduce spices and add extra tomatoes.
